When teen heartthrob Conrad Birdie (Jesse Pearson) gets drafted, his songwriter (Dick Van Dyke) organizes a nationwide contest in which one lucky girl will give Birdie a farewell smooch. Ann-Margret plays the anointed teen, and her Midwestern town goes gaga when Birdie shows up. Janet Leigh and Maureen Stapleton co-star in this cheery slice of 1960s camp based on the hit Broadway musical of the same name.
